Argentina and Antarctica

For Christmas this year, we have treated ourselves to our ultimate bucket list trip which is a cruise to Antarctica.  Unless you're a scientist stationed at a research center, a cruise is the only way to get there.   Probably 90% of the world's cruises to Antarctica depart from Ushuaia, Argentina which is the southernmost city in the world and where we will board our ship.

The best flight itinerary for us to get to Argentina was to fly on Air Canada, which meant flying north to Toronto before flying south to Argentina.  We made a brief stop in São Paulo, Brazil, and arrived in Buenos Aires at 3pm local time on Sunday after 20 hours of travel.

We had to be up again early to catch a 5:15am bus back to the airport for our final flight to Ushuaia, so not a lot of time to do any sightseeing in Buenos Aires.  We'll spend more time here after the cruise before heading home.  We were able to visit one place on our list, a bookstore called El Ateneo Grand Splendid which is in a restored theater.  What an awesome restoration and repurpose of a beautiful space.

We arrived in Ushuaia about 11:00am tired but ready for exciting adventures.  Now to find our ship and get settled.
